Its been a while since I have posted anything on the web site and a rest is as good as a holiday. What a link to my latest post, "post race recovery". I have to admit that turning up for a time trial as my first run back with the Striders post WHW was and Iam sure the coach in charge would agree that taking this easy was best. Iam sure that's what was cursed at me!!!
To endorse my thoughts on recovery I found a good web site and quote; "Recovery is a key to running ultras over the long haul. Injuries and burnout often happen after pushing yourself in a race, or after doing a series of ultras over a short period of time. One has to be very careful to not try to get back too soon. Your recovery plan depends on how long you want to have following the race, before your next race. I suggest a minimum time of 3 weeks recovery time for a 50 miler, and 6 weeks for a 100 miler."
I ran last night and almost 4 weeks later still feel puffed. I think I feel better than last year.
Although I refer to longer distances Iam sure that there is a need for watching your general wellbeing post any race (sore thighs?) and hey come the next race or what ever you have planned you will be ready.
ps hope you like this latest post, any thoughts from our wiser runners or even coaching tips? |

Stuart whilst I am amazed at your attempts to scientifically rationalise the need to recover after competing in an Ultra running event I find the logic behind the recovery process somewhat perplexing If you apply the same recovery logic to an event much more in common to us lesser mortals, for instance drinking then I detect a flaw in your logic for recovery. Running Logic - run 100 miles and stop for 6 weeks, Drinking logic [ based upon the recommend male consumption of 21 units per week] is therefore that you drink 42 pints of Stella Artois [ in under 35 hours or you are disqualified] and then stop for 6 weeks! I suppose these facts do however show the dedication and effort put in by all those that enter the WHW and for me personally that either Ultra drinking or running would have the same effect - a wooden box |
